Festivities for the 4th at Acqualina, Regent

Stuck in town for the big holiday? Acqualina Resort & Spa, the luxe hotel meets Mediterranean villa at 17875 Collins Ave., Sunny Isles Beach, is having a blowout Fourth of July barbecue on the beach from noon to 4 p.m. Friday featuring St. Louis ribs, a mega pasta bar, grilled mahi mahi, burgers made to order and gelato galore. Later, let them entertain you with a mini fashion show by Brazilian designer Carlos Miele. Cost is $55 (kids 12 and under $27.50); 305-918-6860.

Still feel like celebrating? Head south to the Regent Bal Harbour, 10295 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour, where Aqua Soleil's $65 Independence Day barbecue features fried chicken, Kobe burgers, grilled skirt steak, corn on the cob and more around the pool from noon to 7 p.m. Rather be around after dark for the fireworks? The View Bar's $75 Clambake Buffet is 6 to 11 p.m. Both spreads are $25 for the 12-and-under set; 305-455-5400.

AUF WIEDERSEHEN

Harald Neuweg, owner of Fritz & Franz Bierhaus, 60 Merrick Way, Coral Gables, is leaving the City Beautiful for the Rocky Mountains, where he will be chef, manager and partner at The Wienerstube, a venerable Austrian restaurant in Aspen, Colo.

Neuweg reports that executive chef Thomas Kopp and managing partner Peter Lerperger will be in charge at Fritz & Franz, and that he plans to return for the 14th annual Coral Gables Oktoberfest Oct. 2-13.

HERE'S THE SCOOP

The Frieze, 1626 Michigan Ave., Miami Beach, is celebrating its 21st anniversary by giving a free scoop of ice cream or sorbet to customers who stop in between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday; 305-538-2028.

DINING DEALS

• The Oceanaire Seafood Room at Mary Brickell Village, 900 S. Miami Ave., Miami, isn't waiting until August for Miami Spice. Coming off the two-week June preview, the restaurant is offering its three-course, $23 lunches and $36 dinners straight through to the end of September. Menu items change daily depending on market availability; 305-372-8862.

• AltaMar, 1223 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach, is offering a three-course dinner menu for $25 Tuesday through Sunday, with entree choices based on the day's catch; 305-532-3061.

HONORABLE MENTION

• More than 20 South Florida restaurants, from Michy's and The Oceanaire Seafood Room to Hiro's Yakko San and Tropical Chinese, merit mentions in Zagat's 2008-09 World's Top Restaurants.

• The jumbo beef barbecue at Shorty's Bar-B-Q, 11575 SW 40th St., Miami, joins the likes of Nathan's Hot Dogs in New York City and Johnny's Po-Boys in New Orleans as ''America's Favorite Stains,'' according to a poll sponsored by Tide laundry detergent and Citysearch.
