BIG SCREEN

Shine a Light (PG-13) -- Martin Scorsese returns to Last Waltz territory with this concert documentary shot during the Rolling Stones' A Bigger Band tour.

The Ruins (R) -- Carter Smith makes his directorial debut with this adaptation of Scott Smith's bestselling novel about a group of young adults vacationing in Mexico who come across some killer weed. No, not that kind of weed. Smith wrote the screenplay, but the movie is not being screened for critics, so don't get your hopes up.

Leatherheads (PG-13) -- George Clooney directed and stars in this comedy about the early era of America's pro-football league. Renee Zellweger and John Krasinski co-star.

Nim's Island (PG) -- Jodie Foster stars as the author of a series of children's books helping a little girl (Little Miss Sunshine's Abigail Breslin) track down her missing father with the help of a fictional hero (Gerard Butler).

SMALL SCREEN

Tracey Ullman's State of the Union (10 p.m. Sunday, Showtime) -- In the early days of Fox, The Tracey Ullman Show launched the careers of Bart Simpson, for which we're grateful, and Paul Abdul, for which we're forgiving. Well, maybe not. Now the Brit comedian is back with a sketch comedy show in which she engages in London's favorite sport, making fun of the colonists. The first time you hear Straight Up, though, just turn it off.

The Tudors (9 p.m. Sunday, Showtime) -- Back for a second season of pretty clothes and empty heads.

Ecstasy (3:30 a.m. Thursday, Turner Classic Movies) -- This Czech-made 1933 erotic thriller completely freaked out U.S. censors, who hacked out not only nude scenes of 15-year-old Hedy Lamarr but also a shot of horses copulating. Turner Classic Movies swears it's showing the whole thing uncut, though I'm guessing you'll still have to check out Animal Planet After Hours for the full-frontal version of the horses. By the way, Lamarr's ecstatic screaming during the sex scenes has less to do with method acting than the fact that director Gustav Machaty was jabbing her with a safety pin just outside the film frame. Do you think he tried that with the horses, too?
