FSU’s Delvin Purifoy out for the season

Miami Herald Writer

Florida State linebacker Delvin Purifoy will miss the 2014 season after suffering a dislocated ankle, coach Jimbo Fisher said Tuesday.

Purifoy, a freshman from Pensacola, will need season-ending surgery. Fisher said Purifoy’s injury is like the one sustained by defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel in 2011.

McDaniel missed the rest of the 2011 season and redshirted in 2012 as part of his recovery.

“It’s a shame,” Fisher said. “He was doing a good job, too.”

Purifoy’s loss is the latest hit for FSU’s linebacker corps this fall. Redshirt sophomore Ukeme Eligwe (foot) hasn’t practiced at all, and redshirt freshman Matthew Thomas (ankle) has been out since the middle of camp.

Neither will play Saturday against Oklahoma State (8 p.m., ABC).

Still, Fisher said he’s not worried about the Seminoles’ depth at the position.

“We’ve got plenty of guys in there that are doing a good job,” he said.
