Louis Aguirre leaving Miami for L.A., ‘Insider’

After more than a decade as an entertainment reporter and co-anchor at WSVN’s Deco Drive, Louis Aguirre is heading west.

Variety.com reported late Wednesday that Aguirre next month will become co-anchor of the newsmagazine The Insider. He will replace Kevin Frazier, who is moving on to Entertainment Tonight.

Aguirre started his career at Telemundo and also made a stop at WPLG before joining WSVN.

the sporting life

Basketball is so over. It’s football’s time to shine. To celebrate the season, Daunte Culpepper, former professional quarterback and University of Central Florida standout, and retired Miami Dolphin legend Jason Taylor will make separate appearances at Macy’s.

From 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Culpepper will be at the Aventura Mall, and from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Taylor will be at Pembroke Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines. Look for them in the men’s fragrance section; they’ll be hard to miss.

With any $75 Hugo Boss scent purchase customers will have the opportunity to meet the guys and get their John Hancocks. Organizers say don’t even bother bringing your own sporty stash from home. Neither will sign personal items, just autographs.

GOING GLOBAL

Mike DiPasquale is the big man on campus over at WSVN 7 headquarters. The sports anchor is set to compete in the 2014 World Masters Olympic Weightlifting Championship in Copenhagen later this month. He will represent the United States in the 85 kilo (187 pound) class, 55-59 age group.

The married Aventura resident, 55, believes age is just a number. “This can be accomplished [at this stage of your life] if you stick with proper training and nutrition,” he said. “If I can find the time to do it, anyone can find an hour. I’m going to stay at this as long as I can.”

BUCKET LIST

Sofia Vergara’s ex, Delray Beach-based Nick Loeb, is opening his East Hampton home Saturday for an all the rage ALS Ice Bucket Challenge-themed pool party raising money for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Among the names on the party’s “host committee” — because what’s a Hamptons party without a bold faced host committee? — ex Real Housewives of NYC’s Kelly Killoren Bensimon and a slew of NYC-social types. Loeb, who is throwing the party in honor of his friend’s father who died from the disease, is also contributing $100 to ALS for everyone who shows up and takes the chilly challenge. Hot couple du jour Vergara and Joe Manganiello have yet to RSVP. We won’t hold our breaths.

Elsewhere in the so-called #Hamps, Michelle Bernstein gave an elite few a taste of what is to come with her upcoming casual-glam Seagrape restaurant at the Thompson Miami Beach Hotel, set to open Oct. 31. SoBe Wine & Food Fest founder Lee Brian Schrager cohosted a dinner at a private home in Water Mill Sunday night, attended by the likes of celebrity designer Brian Atwood, Bravolebrity Countess LuAnn de Lesseps and big time movie producer Lawrence Bender. Michy’s famous fried chicken was on the menu, but we’re so sure there was no finger-licking going on with this crowd.

OUT & ABOUT

Is comedian Damon Wayans off carbs? Spies say the actor-comedian had lunch on Monday at Morton’s The Steakhouse on Brickell Avenue with a guy friend. Wayans’ order? Chopped salad, New York strip (medium-well) and brussel sprouts.

STARRY NIGHT

Get out your dancing shoes. Season 18 Dancing with the Stars champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy and former Seinfeld star/Broadway performer John O’Hurley will attend Alfalit International’s annual Global Literacy Dinner Sept. 27 at the InterContinental Miami. Alfalit is celebrating 53 years of bringing hope and opportunity through literacy teaching basic reading, writing. But the question is: Will Maks bring Jennifer Lopez as his date?

Tickets are $500. Details: 305-597-9077, ext. 228; 305-588-9474; lydia@alfalit.org; or www.alfalit.org.
