Warren joins Dredge atop leaderboard in Denmark

The Sports Network

Farso, Denmark (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc Warren carded a 5-under 66 in Saturday's third round and he joined Bradley Dredge atop the leaderboard heading into the final day at the Made in Denmark.

Dredge, who held a share of the first-round lead and was in sole possession of first place following the second round, shot a 2-over 73 on Saturday and he is tied with Warren at 6-under 207 at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort.

Both Warren and Dredge have two wins on the European Tour. Warren's last win came at the 2007 Johnnie Walker Championship. Dredge has not won since taking home the European Masters title in 2006.

Gareth Maybin fired a 68 on Saturday and he is tied for third at 3-under 210. Maybin is joined there by Simon Wakefield, who shot a 1-over 72.

Stuart Manley (69), Phillip Archer (71) and Thorbjorn Olesen (72) are tied for fifth through 54 holes at 2-under 211. The trio is four shots off the lead.

Thomas Bjorn (73) headlines a group of five players at 1-under 212 entering the final day.

Warren started his day off slowly, but was able to pick things up down the stretch in his third round. Following a par on the opening hole, Warren tripped to a bogey at the par-3 second. He got that shot back with a birdie at No. 3 and Warren added another gain at No. 5.

With his second bogey at No. 6, Warren fell back to even par on the day.

"I felt a bit out of sync to start and hit a couple of loose shots," Warren said. "Then I hit a good second shot to the third and from thereon I played some good golf. I kind of enjoy this style of golf, hitting some low shots."

Back-to-back birdies at seven and eight had Warren back on track as he made the turn at minus-2 for his round. Two straight pars at 10 and 11 preceded Warren's third bogey, which dropped him to 1-under.

From there Warren found his game as he poured in three straight birdies from No. 13. Warren finished his round with a birdie at 17 to go along with two pars at 16 and 18 to join Dredge at 6-under.

Beginning the day with a 3-shot lead, Dredge struggled right out of the gate with a bogey at No. 1, but he got that shot back with a birdie at the par-5 fourth hole. Dredge's second bogey came at No. 6 to drop him back to 1-over for the day before finishing off his front nine with three straight pars.

Two more bogeys at 10 and 15 had Dredge at minus-5 for the tournament and all of a sudden Warren had the lead all to himself. Dredge responded with just his second birdie at No. 17 to pull even with Warren. A par at the last ended Dredge's third-round 73.

"It was a tough day, but I'm still joint leader which is a great position," said Dredge. "All I can do is give it my best tomorrow."

NOTES: Warren's best finish on tour this year was a third-place finish at the Scottish Open ... Dredge has only played in five events this year with his best finish coming at the NH Collection Open, where he tied for 10th ... The last group of Dredge, Olesen and Wakefield was delayed on the final hole when a television volunteer needed medical attention on the 18th hole.
