Yanks' Beltran returns from concussion DL

The Sports Network

Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees will have veteran slugger Carlos Beltran back in the lineup when they begin their post-All Star break schedule Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Beltran, who broke his nose in two places while taking batting practice prior to a July 9 game at Cleveland, will bat sixth as the designated hitter in Friday's matchup after being reinstated from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

The 37-year-old did not play in any of New York's final seven games before the break, missing the first two tests of the Cleveland series with inflammation in his right knee. Beltran sustained the nasal fracture when he was struck by a batted ball that caromed off the screen in front of the pitcher's mound during a hitting drill.

Beltran has battled injuries throughout his first season with the Yankees, resulting in a career-low .216 average. The eight-time All-Star has produced nine home runs and 28 RBI in 61 games thus far in 2014.
