Fowler family gives $2.5M for UA training facility

The Associated Press

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long says a private gift of $2.5 million will help pay for a new baseball and track training center.

Long announced the gift Tuesday from the Wallace and Jama Fowler family. The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees will consider a resolution Thursday to officially name the facility the Fowler Family Baseball and Track Training Center.

The facility will include about 52,000 square feet of climate-controlled practice space, including a full-size practice infield, throwing area and batting areas for the baseball team. The facility will also include a check-in and warm-up area for track meets and will allow all indoor throwing events to be held on site.

The total cost of the center is $9.1 million, and the university is still raising money for the project.
