The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a Texas man who went missing during a commercial shark diving venture in the Bahamas.

Coast Guard officials in Miami identified the missing man Tuesday as 63-year-old John E. Petty of Longview, Texas. Officials say Petty went missing Sunday night about 20 nautical miles northwest of West End on Grand Bahama island.

According to the Coast Guard, the captain aboard the commercial dive vessel Shear Water reported to authorities that Petty never resurfaced after shark diving with eight other people.

Bahamian authorities have been joined by Coast Guard air and sea crews in the search of the waters north of Grand Bahama.
