Koukalova wins opener in Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey (SportsNetwork.com) - Klara Koukalova won her opening-round match Monday at the Istanbul Cup.

The third-seeded Czech rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win over Croatia's Donna Vekic on the hard courts at Koza World of Sports Arena.

Fourth-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina and seventh-seeded Serbian Bojana Jovanovski also advanced to the second round.

Svitolina outlasted Montenegro's Danka Kovinic 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, while Jovanovski fought back to beat Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Former world No. 1 Carolina Wozniacki is the top seed and will play a first- round match against Swiss Belinda Bencic.

    No. 6 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia advanced to the second round of the Citi Open with a 6-3, 6-2 victory Monday over Slovenia's Polona Hercog.
