Trevecca Nazarene joins NCAA Division II ranks

The Associated Press

Trevecca Nazarene has received approval to become a full and active NCAA Division II member, completing the school's transition from the NAIA level.

The school announced Friday that all 15 of Trevecca Nazarene's intercollegiate teams would become eligible to compete for NCAA postseason appearances beginning in the 2014-15 school year.

Although university president Dan Boone and athletic director Mark Elliott received official notice of the NCAA's approval Wednesday, the school was asked to hold off on announcing the news until Friday.

Trevecca Nazarene began the process of transitioning to the NCAA in 2011 and joined the Great Midwest Athletic Conference as one of its founding members. For the last two years, it has been eligible for Great Midwest titles but hasn't been able to compete for NCAA championships.
