Don’t cut police officers

This past Fourth of July weekend, Chicago experienced one of its most violent weekends with 82 residents shot, including 14 fatalities.

If the proposed changes to the budget by Mayor Carlos Gimenez are approved by Miami-Dade commissioners, the dismantling of Miami-Dade police will continue with the elimination of key units such as the robbery intervention detail and the tactical narcotics team. These cutbacks, coupled with those already enacted, will result in the elimination of about 255 sworn personnel and will signal an invitation to the criminals that Miami-Dade is where they can conduct their criminal enterprises with little fear of arrest or incarceration.

If commissioners truly care about the safety and welfare of the residents — and the men and women who place their lives on the line — they will override the mayor’s ill advised and flawed budget and restore finding for these proven programs. If not, their failure to do so will only place this county on the same violent path as Chicago, where there is no hope in sight of any meaningful relief and residents live in fear.

  • Where’s Joe Biden?

The United States is facing numerous crisis, among them:

  • Rogue leader

Our country cannot survive as an “adhocracy” by executive decree that advances the ideological whims of an oligarchy. Dramatically expanding the welfare state while creating a de facto open border by executive decree will not end well for the United States, especially in the midst of soaring deficits and difficult economic times. These two opposing policies are being implemented by a lawless president and virtually no debate in Congress thanks to Senate President Harry Reid. The president has gone rogue and the Democratic Congress fecklessly cheers him on.

  • Enough violence

President Dilma Rousseff decided to call back the Brazilian ambassador to Israel in protest of the harsh Israeli reaction against the terrorism from Gaza. The Gaza leadership, which believes it can destroy Israel by terror and is willing to sacrifice innocent women and children by hiding weapons in hospitals, schools, residential buildings and ambulances, are totally responsible for their misery.
