Pliskova wins Bad Gastein opener

Bad Gastein, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Eighth seed Karolina Pliskova posted a first-round win Monday at the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies.

The Czech player got past German Mona Barthel 6-4, 6-4 at this clay court event.

Also on Monday, Swiss Stefanie Voegele stifled German Julia Goerges 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 and Lisa-Maria Moser beat fellow Austrian wild card Yvonne Neuwirth 6-2, 6-4. Goerges titled here in 2010.

Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta, of Italy, pulled out of the draw and was replaced by Spanish lucky loser Beatriz Garcia Vidagany.

On Tuesday, opening-round matches will come for second-seeded former French Open runner-up Sara Errani, third-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro and fourth-seeded German Andrea Petkovic, who titled here back in 2009.

The 2014 Bad Gastein winner will claim $47,000.
