SUV crashes into artist’s studio in Liberty City

Special to the Miami Herald

Addonis Parker was painting inside his Liberty City art studio around 3 p.m. Wednesday when an SUV barreled through the front door.

“I am trying to understand how this could happen,” said Parker, in disbelief. “There is tens of thousands of dollars in damage.”

No injuries were reported at the scene, in the 6200 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

The first thing Parker did was inspect his landmark mural of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. near the crash, at the intersection.

Parker recently restored that mural.

Parker also was commissioned by Miami-Dade County in 2012 to restore Purvis Young’s mural in Overtown. Last year, he represented the Global African Diaspora at Art Basel Miami.
