Reds' Hamilton named NL Rookie of the Month

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton was named the National League rookie of the month for June.

Hamilton led the NL with 14 stolen bases and was tied for second with 36 hits. He led all Senior Circuit rookies with 18 runs scored, three home runs, 10 doubles, 18 RBI and a .327 batting average.

The 23-year-old is the first Reds player to be voted the top freshman since third baseman Todd Frazier in August of 2012.

Others considered for the award were San Diego hurlerss Jesse Hahn and Kevin Quackenbush, Arizona infielder Chris Owings and Pittsburgh outfielder Gregory Polanco.
