Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed shortstop Yunel Escobar on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness prior to Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees.

Escobar sustained the injury June 24 while making a throw to first base in the eighth inning of a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has not played since.

The 31-year-old Escobar is batting .244 with four homers and 22 RBI in 77 games this season.

The Rays will make a corresponding roster move later Tuesday.
