3 killed in Northwest Miami-Dade car crash

Speed may have been a factor in a crash on Sunday that left three people dead, Miami-Dade police said.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the area of Northwest 178 Street and 47th Avenue near Miami Gardens.

According to police, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz was traveling north on 47th Avenue when he rear-ended a PT Cruiser. The Cruiser spun into the southbound lanes and hit an Ford F-150 pickup truck before coming to rest in the front yard of a house.

The car then caught fire.

Both passengers in the Cruiser and the driver of the Mercedes died at the crash scene.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Police have not released the names of the victims.
