D-backs send Owings to DL

The Sports Network

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed infielder Chris Owings on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left shoulder strain.

The move is retroactive to June 26. The rookie injured his shoulder on an awkward play at the plate against San Francisco last week.

Owings is batting .277 with six home runs and 21 RBI over 72 games this season.

The D-backs also selected the contract of infielder Nick Ahmed from Triple-A Reno. Infielder Eric Chavez was transferred to the 60-day DL to clear room on the 40-man roster for Ahmed.

The 24-year-old Ahmed was hitting .324 with 20 doubles and 36 RBI in 79 games for the Aces.
