Miami-Dade set to discuss bringing libraries to parks

Should Miami-Dade parks be allowed to house libraries, too?

That’s the question Miami-Dade voters may decide in November if commissioners send a proposed charter amendment to a referendum. The charter currently protects parks from other activities, and the amendment proposed by Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo would add libraries as an exception.

Miami-Dade scheduled a string of 6 p.m. town halls on the topic this week at Miami libraries. The days and locations: Wednesday, North Dade Regional Library (2455 NW 183rd St.) and South Dade Regional Library (10750 SW 211st St.); and Thursday, Arcola Lakes Library (8240 NW 7th Ave.).

Town halls next week also start at 6 p.m. at libraries throughout the county: Monday, June 23, Miami Beach Regional Library (227 22nd St., Miami Beach); Tuesday, June 24, Kendall Library (9101 SW 97th Ave., Miami); Wednesday, June 25, Miami Lakes Library (6699 Windmill Gate Road, Miami Lakes); and Thursday, June 26, West Dade Regional Library (9445 Coral Way, Miami Beach).
