The Sports Network

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters is scheduled to have reconstructive surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Wieters is expected to need nine months of recovery time, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.

The 28-year-old Wieters was batting .308 with five homers and 18 RBI in 26 games before hitting the disabled list on May 10.

With Wieters out, the Orioles will go with Caleb Joseph and Nick Hundley behind the plate.
