Texas 1B Moreland to have ankle surgery

The Sports Network

Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland will have surgery on his left ankle and is expected to miss three months.

Moreland, who has been hampered by the injury all season, will have the surgery this week and it will be performed by Dr. Jon Crates.

He is the second first baseman to go down recently for the Rangers, as Prince Fielder was ruled out for the rest of the season after requiring neck surgery.

The 28-year-old Moreland is hitting .246 with two home runs and 23 RBI over 52 games this season.
