Katina Taylor, wife of Miami Dolphins great and former Dancing With The Stars stalwart Jason Taylor, recently purchased a giant house in Plantation.
According to Broward County property records, mother of three Katina, who happens to be the sister of retired Fins linebacker Zach Thomas, just paid $1.3 million cash for a 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom crib in The Enclave neighborhood, just west of Fort Lauderdale.
Her name is alone on the deed, where Katina is described as a “married woman.”
She does, however, list her home address on the deed as “730 Baldwin Palm Avenue,” the new house.
Jason Taylor, 39, lives in nearby Weston. He is homesteaded in a $3.6 million mansion in the Windmill Ranch area, their marital home for nearly 10 years.
The Taylors have had a stormy relationship since his heyday as the Fins’ top defender and 2008 runner-up on Dancing With The Stars, an ABC reality show.
Katina filed for divorce in Broward County twice in 2006, but withdrew her petitions both times.
The Taylors have not returned calls for comment.
These days, Jason is involved in his children’s foundation and dabbles in NFL commentary on ESPN TV and radio, and the NFL Network.
Mitchell in ICU
Former WSVN-Fox 7 and WPLG-ABC 10 anchorwoman Kelley Mitchell is in the ICU at North Shore Hospital this weekend after she suffered a collapsed lung two weeks ago.
Mitchell, 58, now an afternoon anchor on WLRN radio, says her doctors are still trying to figure out how she came down with a right lung that could barely inflate.
“It’s sort of a mystery,” Mitchell said. “All I know is that I started wheezing during Memorial Day weekend and the nurse at the urgent care facility sent me to the hospital.”
At times, Mitchell’s voice sounds like she inhaled helium, but she said Friday she expected to either be sent home or transferred out of the ICU by Tuesday.
“I still have a bunch of tubes inside of me,” she said. “I hope they’ll take them out soon.”
Twelve years ago, Mitchell was very public about her battle with breast cancer.
Local TV news watchers remember Mitchell as Rick Sanchez’s co-anchor in the heyday of Channel 7 news.
Construction of what was the area’s most controversial project started a couple of weeks ago on Star Island, according to a notice filed with Miami-Dade County.
Plastic surgeon Lenny Hochstein, husband of Real Housewives of Miami star Lisa Hochstein, started spreading through social media photos his new house at 42 Star Island, even if it’s barely starting to take shape.
Hochstein described the work in one photo as “forms for the spa and the gym.”
The new crib is expected to be about 20,000 square feet and take two years to build.
The existing 1925 Walter DeGarmo house on the property when Hochstein bought it was deemed to be of historic value by Miami Beach preservationists.
The Hochsteins fought for more than a year in court for the right to level the place and replace it with something to their liking.
The existing mansion was demolished in March.
