Re the June 3 article Scott signs historic $77 billion budget: It’s disappointing that a governor famous for slashing funds to so many necessary programs would not even consider a line-item veto to cut over a million dollars rewarding a pig farmer who refused to abide by Florida law. Twelve years ago, Florida voters decided overwhelmingly to eliminate cruel gestation crates, which kept female pigs so tightly confined between iron bars that they couldn’t even move an inch. Instead of adapting to more up-to-date methods of animal agriculture, Florida’s only pig farmer petulantly closed up shop, sued the state and demanded a reward.
Why didn’t Gov. Scott notice such an obvious waste of taxpayer money?
