Rockies' Lyles lands on DL with broken hand

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies placed right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a fractured third metatarsal in his left hand.

Lyles sustained the injury in the first inning of Wednesday's 16-8 setback against the Arizona Diamondbacks. After firing a wild pitch with a runner on third, Lyles went to cover the plate. Arizona's Martin Prado's slide into Lyles' glove hand and bent it back awkwardly, causing the fracture.

Lyles fought through the pain and remained in the game, but was lifted after giving up four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over four innings.

The 23-year-old had pitched to a 5-1 record with a 3.52 earned run average over 12 starts this season, his first with the Rockies after being acquired from Houston back on Dec. 3, 2013.

Colorado recalled pitcher Chris Martin from Triple-A Colorado Springs to fill the vacated roster spot.

The 28-year-old Martin made his major league debut on April 29. He allowed four runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts over nine appearances before being optioned back to Colorado Springs on May 20.
