Yankees' Tanaka named AL Pitcher of the Month

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Yankees' Masahiro Tanaka was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for May.

Tanaka complied a 5-1 record with a 1.88 earned run average, one shutout, six walks and 42 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched over six appearances to claim his first career monthly award.

Since its inception in 1979, the 25-year-old Tanaka is the first Yankee rookie to win the Pitcher of the Month Award.

Others considered for the award were Cleveland's Corey Kluber, Toronto's Mark Buehrle, Minnesota's Phil Hughes and Houston's Dallas Keuchel.
