In his letter, VA is not serving our veterans, the Rev. Leonard Klippen correctly points out that there is fault in the delivery of care to our veterans. I would point out though, that it is not a matter of funding. In my 18 years of serving our country’s best, many in a leadership position, I can attest to the waste prevalent in the system, secondary to the administrative structure of the department.
It is time to evaluate the program as a whole and work on reducing the excessive rules and regulations that only entice to a “gaming” process, reduce the administrative staff, give more clout to clinicians, and reduce the political influence. The culture of stonewalling, fear of retribution, and placing self-preservation over the veteran’s interests has to stop.
