What book will you be reading this summer?

On a recent, perfectly moonlit evening, Hollywood had nothin’ on Miami. It was right here where glitz and glam reigned supreme, as two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey delivered an outstanding performance before the well-heeled crowd at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Eighth Annual Gala. The debonair “House of Cards” actor surprised and dazzled with powerhouse renditions of “You’re Nobody ’Til Somebody Loves You” and “New York State of Mind,” and even a cheeky interpretation of Frank Sinatra’s “My Kind of Town.” (He rewrote the lyrics to replace Chicago with Miami, highlighted our fair city’s poolside views, its vibrant cultural population and even its past ballot box challenges, all of which drew roars of laughter from the crowd.) Spacey shared the stage with some serious local talent too—the University of Miami Frost School of Music’s Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, directed and conducted by multi-Grammy Award winner Gregg Field, with multi-Grammy Award nominee Shelly Berg on piano. Gala chairs Swanee and Paul DiMare, honorary chair Adrienne Arsht, sponsors Margaret and Mike Eidson, Sue Miller of the Miller Family Foundation, and Margarita and Armando Codina were among the luminaries who danced into the night, which was deliciously capped off with creamy milk shakes, by Barton G, being passed around at evening’s end. A sweet affair indeed.
