Sand, sun and spikes?

That’s the vision of the Miami Dolphins and the Bahamian tourism ministry.

The two sides formalized a five-year partnership Saturday with the first Weekend in the Bahamas, an event featuring Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino and other Dolphins greats at the Atlantis resort in Nassau. Activities included golf, a sunset cruise and a youth football clinic.

“The support I have received in the Bahamas from the vast array of Dolphins fans made this deal twofold in serving both the Miami fans eager to travel to the Bahamas and the Bahamian football fans fully supportive of the team I hold dear,” Marino said in a prepared statement.

Going forward, the Bahamas will serve as the official island destination of Dolphins legends. The annual event will include a fishing event and a flag football game featuring Marino and past Dolphins stars facing off against top officials of the Bahamian government. The agreement also calls for Bahamian-themed sections at Sun Life Stadium on game days.
