Not enough pay

Apparently, Broward College pays between $1,850 and $2,130 to adjunct faculty to teach a three-credit class as reported in the May 28 article At Broward College, adjunct professors demand better pay. Thirty five years ago, I was an adjunct professor of American history at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and I was paid $1,500 for a three-credit course. I guess that it is an issue of supply and demand since adjuncts constitute about half of all faculty members. More than 20 years ago, adjuncts represented about one third of the faculty.

I have been asked to teach at our local community college and turned them down as I will not work for slave wages.
