  • Poet Dr. Maya Angelou was the guest of honor at her namesake's (Maya Angelou Elementary in Miami) school's Dedication Day and Ribbon Cutting Dec. 15, 1995. The ceremony was attended by several school board officials and the children entertained her with singing, cheerleading, a poetic tribute and speeches.
