In the end, it’s politics as usual. A group of lawmakers fail to support their local treasure, Miami Dade College, and then exact revenge on the institution. It’s a horrible example of public service.
A good example of public service is Eduardo Padrón, the president of the college, who has labored to make MDC a national model for more than four decades.
His efforts helped to build it into a source of pride for the entire community, but especially among underserved areas, which these legislators are supposed to represent.
I hope MDC is finally recognized for what it has meant to generations of South Floridians and that it will eventually receive the support it deserves and has earned.
