Giants' Cain won't make Monday start

The Sports Network

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants will hold Matt Cain out of his scheduled start on Monday due to a right hamstring strain he sustained in his most recent outing.

The injury, diagnosed as a Grade 1 strain, forced Cain to exit Wednesday's game at Colorado after just three innings. The three-time All-Star is not expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Yusmeiro Petit will instead draw the assignment for Monday's matchup against the Chicago Cubs.

Petit made three starts when Cain was on the DL earlier this season with a lacerated finger and threw three scoreless innings in relief of Cain in Wednesday's contest.

For the season, Petit is 3-1 with a 4.76 earned run average over 13 total appearances.
