Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Maria Sharapova won her opening match at the French Open on Monday.
After waiting out the rain, Sharapova needed only 61 minutes to post a 6-1, 6-2 win over fellow Russian Ksenia Pervak on Court Chatrier.
Sharapova, the seventh seed, completed a career Grand Slam at Roland Garros in 2012. She reached the final at this clay-court tournament last year, but lost to Serena Williams.
Pervak has yet to make it out of the first round in four appearances at the French Open.
Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova overcame a taxing first set to beat Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano 7-5, 6-0.
Other early winners included 12th-seed Flavia Pennetta and 2013 Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki.
