Judge Steve Leifman’s May 18 Other Views column, Give people with mental illness treatment, not a jail cell, about our funding appropriate care and housing for the mentally ill outside of jails is an example of an outstanding public servant going above and beyond to serve the public, especially those who need our help the most. On the same day another article, Prison under fire for grisly death, about the failure of our police, correctional institution employees and coroner to complete an investigation into the suspicious death of a mentally handicapped inmate after two years appears to be an example of public servants serving each other. Thanks for both articles. Keep up the good work Judge Leifman. We need to revisit the cuckoo’s nest.
