Re the May 20 article Boat slip top soccer choice: So let me understand: We are a city on Biscayne Bay. The waterfront is valuable property that enhances Miami’s image. First we build Bayside and place large, ugly parking garages to block the water view. A few restaurants actually do get to see the water.
Then we build a big old arena on the waterfront, and everyone sits inside enclosed with nary a view of the water. Now we’re considering building a stadium where everyone will sit inside surrounded by walls. The much-touted waterfront is successfully hidden from most people’s view — both tourists and residents.
To see Miami’s beautiful waterfront one now has to buy a top-floor condo. Go figure — oh, but I’m forgetting, dollars trump all of nature’s beauty.
