Leonard Pitts’ May 18 column, The tragic extent of the partisan gap, dealing with the callous and dismissive way in which the conservative media have reacted to the Nigerian girls’ kidnappings and to those demanding they be returned, perfectly illustrates the lack of compassion in the right.
However, if one thinks back through history, this is one of this group’s defining traits. While the tea party has gone all out, right wingers are not only insensitive to everything outside their own personal needs, but also appear to be proud of it. Conservatives seem unable to empathize.
