Mark Cheadle’s May 13 letter observed that “at least 75 percent of student graduates at a local university were from abroad.” I wonder what names he expected to see on the program: Sitting Bull? Pocahontas?
I have children and grandchildren born in the United States with foreign last names who are university graduates and productive members of society. Therefore our tax money was spent wisely. Just because a last name looks foreign does not mean the person is an illegal alien.
In addition, many universities, public and private, recruit students from countries such as China, Japan, India and Saudi Arabia because they pay nonresident fees and, therefore, help the universities’ coffers.
