Ovechkin to miss Russia's next game at Worlds

The Sports Network

Minsk, Belarus (SportsNetwork.com) - Russian star Alex Ovechkin is expected to miss the round-robin finale of the 2014 World Hockey Championship following an open-ice hit in Sunday's game against Germany.

Russia has already clinched first place in Group B and will play its final game of the preliminary round Tuesday against Belarus. The Russians will then play Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Ovechkin was hurt in the third period of Russia's 3-0 victory when he collided with Germany's Marcus Kink. The hip check sent Ovechkin flying in the air and he appeared to hurt his right knee.

Kink was not penalized on the play.

Ovechkin, meanwhile, needed to be helped off the ice. He was hospitalized for a short time before returning to the team hotel on Sunday night.
