Tursunov, Mahut win Nice openers

Nice, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Seeded men Dmitry Tursunov and French favorite Nicolas Mahut were a pair of first-round winners Monday at the Nice Open, a final clay French Open tune-up.

The fifth-seeded Russian Tursunov handled Ukrainian Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-1, 6-4, while the sixth-seeded Mahut outlasted fellow Frenchman Martin Vaisse 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2 at Nice Lawn Tennis Club.

Also on Day 2, reigning champion Albert Montanes mauled Aussie Matthew Ebden 6-1, 6-3. Montanes topped France's Gael Monfils in last year's finale in Nice.

Additional wins came for Argentine qualifier Leonardo Mayer and wild card and veteran Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.

American John Isner and Latvia's Ernests Gulbis are this week's top seeds.
