It’s odd to hear calls for sanctions on Venezuela while the lifeblood of the regime is the export of oil. According to Reuters, Venezuela exports about 2.2 million barrels a day, and its top export market is in the United States. We buy more than 900,000 barrels of oil a day from them.
I’m bemused when I see an “SOS Venezuela” sign on a car at a local Citgo Station. The company is owned by PDV America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A., the very tyrants who are oppressing the Venezuela people.
If you want to punish them, don’t worry about sanctions; just don’t buy oil from them.
