Keppinger taken off ChiSox' roster

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox designated infielder Jeff Keppinger for assignment after activating him from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

Keppinger, signed to a three-year, $12 million contract by the White Sox prior to last season, had just completed a rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham. The veteran utilityman missed the beginning of the 2014 campaign recovering from surgery on his right shoulder performed back in September.

The White Sox have 10 days to either trade, release or outright Keppinger to the minor leagues.

A .282 career hitter over nine major league seasons, Keppinger batted a disappointing .253 with four home runs and 40 RBI during his first season in Chicago while opening the year as the team's everyday third baseman.
