Children's hospital volunteer 'Grandpa Juan' brings cheer to patients

  • Holtz Children's Hospital volunteer "Grandpa Juan" Manfredi becomes emotional when talking about his granddaughter, Amanda, who died from a chronic intestinal disorder. Manfredi, 72, of Hollywood, said that after his terrible loss, he began working as a volunteer at Holtz Children's Hospital at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami in early 2004 to fill the void. "I've seen kids here who didn't have anybody to hold hands with," Manfredi said. "The nurses are fantastic, but they have a lot to do. I want to volunteer. There is so much love to give."
