Rams WR Bailey suspended four games

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was given a four-game suspension by the NFL Monday for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Bailey, a third-round pick in last year's draft who is expected to hold down an increased role this season, acknowledged the infraction via Twitter but denied he used any performance-enhancing drugs.

"I want to be clear that I've never taken any performance enhancing products," Bailey tweeted. "I acknowledge that a violation of league policy occurred and that I am responsible for that violation.

"I sincerely apologize to my Coach [Jeff] Fisher, [general manager] Les Snead, [Rams owner] Stan Kroenke, my teammates and our great fans for my mistake."

Bailey will be forced to sit out the Rams' first four contests of 2014, running through the club's Week 5 matchup against Philadelphia on Oct. 5. He is eligible to participate in the preseason.

After recording just one catch over the first 10 games of his rookie season, Bailey had 16 totaling 214 yards in St. Louis' last six outings of 2013. Bailey added a 27-yard touchdown run in a Week 16 win over Tampa Bay.
