Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Doumit's go-ahead RBI double broke a scoreless deadlock in the seventh inning and the Atlanta Braves blanked the Chicago Cubs, 2-0, in the middle test of a three-game set.
The Braves plated a pair in the seventh to finally get on the board.
Brian Schlitter (2-1) replaced Jeff Samardzija on the mound and served up a single to Chris Johnson to begin the inning. Johnson advanced to second on B.J. Upton's sacrifice bunt and Andrelton Simmons followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners with one away.
Doumit then sent a double into left that kept slicing away from the left fielder Junior Lake to bring home Johnson and move Simmons to third. Atlanta used to suicide squeeze to eke out another run as Tyler Pastornicky put down a perfect bunt in front of the catcher to score Simmons and make it 2-0.
Ervin Santana (4-0) fanned seven and surrendered five hits and a walk over the first seven frames, David Carpenter struck out the side in the eighth and Craig Kimbrel fired a scoreless ninth for his 10th save of the season.
