Dallas confirms Diaz to miss 6-10 weeks

Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - FC Dallas confirmed on Wednesday that midfielder Mauro Diaz will undergo surgery on his right knee next week, ruling him out for the next 6-10 weeks.

The 23-year-old left his team's match against D.C. United on April 26 shortly before halftime with the injury, and he missed FCD's 1-0 loss to Red Bull New York on Sunday.

Dallas originally believed the injury was not serious, but after further tests, the team has confirmed that Diaz will require surgery.

After arriving in Dallas as a Young Designated Player last summer, Diaz has enjoyed a strong start to the 2014 season with three goals and three assists in eight matches.

The club is also expected to be without defender Kellyn Acosta for the next six weeks because of his own knee injury.
