Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport has been under construction and repair for many years. Many localities were unhappy and had a host of complaints, most of which were addressed and resolved to the satisfaction of the aggrieved locality. After all the evaluations and much professional review, a gross oversight has been revealed: There is no southern U.S. 1 exit from the airport.
When asked about this situation, one of the Hollywood commissioners offered that now that they recognized the error, we should put it behind us and move on.
A member of the reconstruction team offered that the traffic pattern would now be improved. In other words, traffic would be improved if we require the traffic to travel in the opposite direction toward Fort Lauderdale, in order to go south to U.S. 1. That’s bizarre. And, people taking taxis from the airport will be paying twice the appropriate fare.
It is necessary for Hollywood commissioners and the other affected bodies to go back to the drawing board and create an appropriate traffic pattern.
