“I’ve had a long-standing interest in art history, and my first published book was actually a nonfiction essay and catalogue on the American watercolorist John Stuart Ingle. There are terrific, well chosen illustrations, too. Published by the Smithsonian American Art Museum.”

John Sandford, author of Field of Prey, out Tuesday.
