Day withdraws from The Players Championship

The Sports Network

(SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Day withdrew from next week's Players Championship on Friday as he is still recovering from a thumb injury.

The sixth-ranked player in the world has played in just one event since winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February, finishing in a share of 20th place at the Masters.

Day was expected to make his return next week at the Players, but his agent Bud Martin said in a statement Day will not be able to resume normal golf activities for a few weeks.

In his other two starts on the PGA Tour this season aside from the Match Play Championship and Masters, Day has shared second place at the Farmers Insurance Open and missed the secondary cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
