Beach High: Name stays the same

 

As one who will attend his 50th high school reunion of the Miami Beach Senior High class of 1964 in October, I was glad that cooler heads prevailed and the name of the school was not changed.

However, Dr. Solomon Lichter does deserve to be recognized for the great work he did as principal of our school during the difficult desegregation years. I have suggested that Dade Boulevard, which runs right past the school be re-named for him.

While thousands of us rose up to protest any name change to our school, no disrespect was ever intended toward Dr. Lichter or his family.
