This could be a weekend highlight, for sure: On Saturday, from 3-6 p.m. at Bloomingdale's Aventura, you have an option to hang out with a living, breathing supermodel. Petra Nemcova is launching her decor brand Be The Light New York World Collection on Level 1 by Cosmetics. Nemcova, a survivor of the 2004 Asian tsunami, will introduce the first products in the new line — six scented, hand-poured candles that were influenced by the beautiful Czech’s discoveries over her more than a decade of travel.
WPLG Local 10’s Jen Herrera recently started a blog to chronicle her battle with dermatomyositis, an autoimmune disease that attacks her skin and muscles. In a post to healthyhealinganchor.blogspot.com, the Miami native writes that about a year before her February 2013 diagnosis she had been experiencing skin redness, joint pain and numbness in her fingers.
“It's been a wild journey, one that a year later I’m finally ready to talk about. From the first symptoms, to how I’m treating and healing myself now,” writes the still active married mom of two. “I’m not cured, not even in remission. I see my health and my body as a constant work in progress. And it does take work a lot of it. And discipline. But I’m OK with that.”
Making the cut
Christian Slater is a big fish in Miami’s pond. The actor was high up on the exclusive guest list for Haute Living magazine’s annual Haute 100 event at the Pérez Art Museum Miami Saturday night.
The glossy magazine was feting the most influential, powerful and philanthropic people in the city and the Mind Games star fits the bill. Most recently seen on the big screen in Nymphomaniac, Slater arrived with newish wife Brittany Lopez, who wanted to make sure organizers got the name cards right. “I’m supposed to be using Slater now,” she told HL editor Hadley Henriette. The couple were married in the Coral Gables courthouse in December 2013.
“This is a great event, everything is so beautiful,” said Slater, a first time visitor to the Herzog & de Meuron-designed museum.
His next project: playing a a priest in the straight to DVD horror flick, Way of the Wicked, about a demonic teen, out May 20. Tag line: “Evil never dies.”
