Toronto, ON ( - The Boston Red Sox activated third baseman Will Middlebrooks from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Middlebrooks had been sidelined since April 6 with a right calf strain. He finished a three-game rehab with Triple-A Pawtucket by failing to collect a hit in 10 at-bats.

To make room on the roster, the Red Sox optioned infielder Brock Holt to Pawtucket after last night's contest. Holt hit .348 with four RBI over seven games in two call-ups to Boston already this season.
